Smile.........

My Daddy today (12/5/09). I'm taking the kids to see him tomorrow. He looks so very old and tiny to me in this picture that my sister took today. So much like his Daddy looked when he wasn't well toward the end of his life. Jessie nearly cried when she looked at the pictures and that almost made me cry too. I've got this song in my head because my Dad always did these goofy smiles. (Ironically, my Dad was born in 1938, 2 years after the song was written.)

Smile though your heart is aching;
Smile even though it's breaking.
When there are clouds in the sky, you'll get by.
If you smile through your fear and sorrow,
Smile and maybe tomorrow,
You'll see the sun come shining through for you.
Light up your face with gladness,
Hide every trace of sadness.
Although a tear may be ever so near,
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile,
If you just smile.
That's the time you must keep on trying,
Smile, what's the use of crying?
You'll find that life is still worthwhile
If you just smile.
Lyrics by John Turner and Geoffrey Parsons.
Music written by Charlie Chaplin, 1936.
